The ingenuity inherent in caregiving is among the most ancient of technologies. When activated and nurtured as we cultivate our artistry and share in community, there is potential to magnify our many powers. To me the strongest of all is the power of connectivity. The lack of representation and systems of support for Black performing artist that are mothering is stark and my project MUVA was launched in 2022 to fill that void. MUVA centers the experiences of Black performing artists who are also mothers as a path to collective liberation, equity and true inclusion. We celebrate and amplify our work with the creation of two platforms:
MUVA showcase live Performance - A space to express ourselves in solidarity through story telling and tapping into the ceremony of sensuality in reclamation of bodily autonomy postpartum.
MUVA Says... podcast - A space created to document our process, camaraderie and wisdom in real time.
MUVA was awarded the Impact Entrepreneurship award from The New School in May 2022.
