Melike Vivastine Konur is a multidisciplinary artist whose work positions mothering as a form of intelligence. This informs her creative practice across performance, ritual, design, and storytelling. With performing firmly as a foundation that emanates through her work, she branches out to mediums best suited for her expression, regardless of form, to center and celebrate the lived experiences of mothers through the galvanizing force of reflecting and sharing her own journey.
Her artistic journey began in childhood, where creativity was a constant presence. Inspired by her mother, Valerie, and grandmother, Vivastine, Melike was introduced to the worlds of music and storytelling at an early age. Guided by her mother’s teachings on harmony and storytelling, she choreographed to the soulful library of Sade in her living room, sparking a lifelong passion.
At the age of 14, Melike began her professional career under the mentorship of the legendary, multi hyphenate, artist mother, Debbie Allen. She then pursued formal training in Jazz Dance at Point Park Conservatory and following her studies, moved to her paternal homeland of Türkiye at the age of 22, launching an immersion in intercultural collaborations that shaped AfroTurk Soul music.
Over the past two decades, Melike performed original and commissioned works in cities across the globe, including a notable performance at the Auditorium della Parca in Rome, Italy, with the Orchestra Italiana Del Cinema. Melike’s work has been featured in ALL Magazine and she is a cherished east coast burlesque host.
Melike most recently was awarded funding by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for an exhibition culminating after a year long artist residency intensive with Sibyl's Shrine.
